UNGER Oswald Eryk (1896 – 1967)

He was an engineer and a participant of the World War 1 as a soldier of the Western Legion (1914), pioneer battalion of the Austro-Hungarian Army (1915 - 1918).

In 1918 after returning from the Serbian front, he joined the Polish Army as a commander of the company in the 21st battalion of sappers. He took part in the rescue of Lvov and the Kiev campaign. He was awarded with the following military medals: Virtuti Militari, Cross of Valor, Medal for War and Cross of the Kiev Bridgehead. He was sent to the reserve as a sapper lieutenant in 1921.

After finishing his military duty, he continued studies at the Technical University in Lvov and completed it with a degree at a road and bridge engineering. In 1926 - 1927, he was a contractual officer of the Public Work Directorate in Lvov and Construction Directorate of DOKP. In 1927 he established the first construction company which he later moved to Gdynia in 1929. He was a member of the Nonpartisan Bloc for Cooperation with the Government.

In 1939 as a captain in reserve of the Polish Army he was mobilized. He participated in the defence of Warsaw. After the surrender he was taken captive. He stayed in Oflag II-C Woldenberg (Dobiegniew) where he was a supervisor of the Jewish barrack.
