Polish Army – clandestine military organisation; established in 1910 in Lviv by members of the “Zarzewie” Organisation of Independent Youth to replace the Polish Military Union; its aim was to train the personnel of the future Polish army to fight for independent and democratic Poland; it inspired the creation of the Polish scouting movement (1910). In 1911, it formed the overt Polish Rifle Teams (PDS; Polish military-independence organisations, 1908–1914), remaining a clandestine cadre organisation within the PDS structures. In 1914, most of the members of the Polish Army joined the Polish Legions; commanding officers: 1910–1911 M. Norwid-Neugebauer, 1911–1912 H. Bagiński, 1912–1914 M. Januszajtis.
