Tseirei Mizrachi

Tseirei Mizrachi also The youth of Mizrachi – a youth Zionist organisation linked to the Mizrachi Zionist religious party. It was established in 1917, as the Mizrachi was beginning to create its satellite organisations.

The idea for a Zionist religious youth organisation first appeared in Poland and was then transplanted to other countries. The aim of the organisation was to promote intellectual self-education in a religious spirit combined with the popularisation of modern culture among the organisation’s members. Young people were expected to perform physical works and to increase their productivity. The first worldwide congress of the representatives of organisations from different countries took place in 1921 in Karlove Vary. It was during this congress that the decision to establish a central office of the movement in Warsaw was adopted.
