As it is stated in The Encyclopedia of Jewish Life Before and During the Holocaust, the first mention of the followers of Judaism living in Wiżajny comes from 1646.
During the census in 1921, 332 inhabitants of Wiżajny declared a Jewish origin. After the outbreak of the Second World War, the Nazis deported the local Jews to Lithuania.
