W 1808 roku w mieście było 731 katolików i 511 Żydów. W 1867roku Wiżajny osiągnęły największy rozwój ludnościowy w swej historii. W 205 domach mieszkało 2262 mieszkańców, w tym 1172 Żydów, 977 ewangelików i 613 katolików[1.1].
