The Cukerman’s Gate Foundation has published the plan of the city of Będzin entitled Żydowski Będzin. Plan miasta – miejsca pamięci [Jewish Będzin. City map – memorials]. Andrzej Ciepał, a member of the foundation, a guide and an expert on the history of Będzin Jews, is the author of the plan.
The plan includes 120 indications of places related to the history of Będzin Jews. There are information about the inhabitants of the city, their enterprises, public utility buildings, houses of prayer, cemeteries and modern monuments commemorating their history. The back side of the plan is a compilation of the streets of the contemporary Będzin and the archival plan from around 1916. This allows you to follow the urban changes that have occurred in the topography of the city.
The plan is available for download in the form of a pdf file in two language versions: Polish and English, on the website of the foundation. A paper version may be obtained at one of the distribution points:
- the Cukerman’s Gate – Będzin, Al. Kołłątaja 24/28,
- the Upper Silesian Jews House of Remembrance – Gliwice, ul. Poniatowskiego 14,
- Staromieyska Restaurant – Będzin, ul. Sączewskiego 27,
- Tourist Information Centre – Katowice, Rynek 13.
On 29 April 2018, a meeting promoting the publication will be held, accompanied by a walk in the footsteps of the Jews of Będzin. The gathering will take place at the registered office of the Cukerman’s Gate Foundation – a former Jewish house of prayer (Będzin, Al. Kołłątaja 24/28) at 10.00 am. Each participant will receive a paper version of the plan.
The project was co-financed by the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Province. Żydowski Będzin – plan miasta is a continuation of the idea implemented in 2008–2010 under the name Hurtownia Manufaktury [Workshop Warehouse].
