• Since 2002 the Four Cultures Festival has been taking place in Łódź. It is a multidisciplinary event, consisting of ceremonies, film and theatre shows, concerts and exhibitions connected with four nations living in Łódź before the war: the Polish, Jewish, German and Russian. During the Festival Łódź was visited by, inter alia: Taganka Theatre from Moscow, The Izrael Philharmonic Orchestra, Barbara Hendriks, Joseph Malowany. Jerzy Kalina, Mariusz Treliński and Borys Ejfman staged their performances here. The “Rebellious art” – of Russian nonconformist painters was presented. The works of Leni Riefenstahl, a controversial German director famous, inter alia, for shooting the Third Reich propaganda movies, were shown as well, and a concert of A.P. Kaczmarek, Oscar award winner took place. In 2004 the Festival obtained the Polish Tourism Organization certificate for the Best Tourist Product. At the beginning of 2008 “The City of Dialogue” initiative was launched, in cooperation with the Łódź City Hall.
