Press agencies in Poland until 1939

Press agencies in Poland until 1939 – before Poland regained independence in 1918, Polish information press offices had operated as branches of German, Austrian, and Russian agencies. In 1918, the newly introduced press norms provided Polish outlets with the guarantee of freedom of press, just like in Western European countries. The official press agency of the Polish government was the Polish Telegraphic Agency (PAT), established on 31 October 1918 in Warsaw. In addition to regional and specialist agencies, there existed three national news agencies: the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (ŻAT, the organ of the Jewish press, founded in 1919), the Polish Agrarian Agency (PAA, established in 1931), and the Catholic Press Agency (KAP, established in 1927).
