During World War II Nazis established a ghetto in Końskie. Already in October 1939 Jewish district was created, which was a kind of prelude to the establishment of the ghetto itself. A few months later the area of the said district was officially transformed into ghetto. As Krzysztof Urbański informs in his book "Zagłada Żydów w dystrykcie radomskim", the area included in the ghetto consisted of two smaller areas, divided by 3rd of May Street: "One part of Jewish district included the following streets: Berka Joselewicza, Kazanowska, 3rd of May, and the second part was located at Kilińskiego Street, Jatkowa Street, Warszawska Street, Bóźnicza Street and Nowy Świat Street." About ten thousand people lived in this ghetto, most of them had been deported from Wielopolska, Płock and Łódź.
Końskie ghetto's dissolution took place in the autumn of 1942 - most of its inhabitants were deported by Nazis to the camp in Treblinka. A few hundred people were shot dead on the spot. At that time a group of ca. three hundred Jews stayed in the town, but they also were deported to Szydłowiec in January the following year, and later transported to the extermination camp.
