Granatowa policja

Blue police: a common name for the Polish police working in the General Government during the German occupation in the years 1939-1945. It was a community police subordinate to the German order police (the so-called Orpo, Ordnungpolizei.) It was recruited from the pre-war forcibly incorporated State Police officers. The blue policemen were taking part inter alia in the deportation of the population, fighting against the "black market", isolating the Jews in ghettos. Some of the officers belonged to the underground units of the underground state, providing information on the actions of German police.

The term was created within the framework of the project Zapisywanie świata żydowskiego w Polsce [recording the Jewish environment in Poland], whose author is Anka Grupińska, a well-known Polish journalist and writer, specializing in the modern history of the Polish Jews. The project, initiated in 2006 by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, consists in recording interviews with Polish Jews from all generations.
