The Jewish cemetery in Żabno, Kościuszki Street.

The Jewish cemetery in Żabno (Kościuszki Street, approximately 1 km. from the town square in Zakirchle) was established in the XVII-th century.
About 250 tombstones, most of which are beautifully ornamented, have survived on an area of 1,5 ha. The area is tidied and fenced. The cemetery moreover, has a grave of over 100 Jews, who were shot on this spot by the Germans in March 1942. An interesting element of the cemetery is an ohel with tombs of three tzadiks: Israel Elimelech from Żabno, Jacob Isaac and Shalom David.
In the years 1991-1992 the Abraham Lander Foundation cleaned and fenced the area of the cemetery. In August 2004, young people from Israel, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Spain spent a week tidying the Jewish cemetery. The action was carried out as a part of the “Antyschematy” initiative (Polish: "Anti-schemas"). A monument commemoration the Jewish victims of World War II had been unveiled before the representatives of Jewish communities of Cracow and Łódź left Żabno.
